Chapter One: Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
Electoral disenfranchisement refers to the systematic exclusion of certain groups of people from participating in the electoral process. In Nigeria, minority groups, particularly in diverse regions like Jos South LGA, Plateau State, often face barriers that prevent them from exercising their voting rights. These barriers may include political, social, or legal factors that disproportionately affect minorities. This study will explore the impact of electoral disenfranchisement on minority groups in Jos South, focusing on the ways in which these groups are marginalized in the electoral system.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Electoral disenfranchisement has been a longstanding issue in Nigeria, particularly for minority groups who may be marginalized due to ethnicity, religion, or socio-economic status. In Jos South LGA, this problem may limit the ability of minority groups to participate fully in the political process, thereby affecting their political representation and influence. This study seeks to investigate the extent and effects of electoral disenfranchisement on these communities.
